Charitable donations have enabled more than 120 cases of breast cancer to be detected in Savannah and Coastal Georgia. Another 7,000 screanings were performed and 1,360 diagnostics were completed. All of these were made possible by charitable donations to local breast cancer awarenss and research organizations. We want to help them do even more.
Up to $2,500 Donation for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research
Every year an average of 30 women die from breast cancer in Chatham County alone, and this number is rising. Many women in our area die needlessly because they do not understand or trust the medical system that could save them. Others grow sicker or suffer enormous stress because they are under-insured or unable to pay for the myriad expenses which accompany a diagnoses of breast cancer.
Communities are Underserved
According to the Susan G. Komen Chapter for Coastal Georgia an astounding 100% of residents of Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Effingham and Liberty counties live in medically underserved areas (see study here) This means that without help from charitable orgainzations in our area, these women are at a much higher risk of breast cancer than their sisters and friends in better served areas.
According to this same 2015 survey, women from these medically underserved areas are less likely to know the services available in their communities. They are also more more likely to let fears of pain during screening and fears of cancer prevent them from getting the screening and treatment that could save their lives.
